Frequently asked questions.

What is The Loft Rapid City?

The Loft Studio + Space is Rapid City’s new natural light photography studio and event rental space. The Loft is set up primarily as a photography studio, with limited props and lots of open space — a blank canvas for your next photo session.

The Loft is also ideal for small events. See below for more info on the types of events you can book at The Loft.

How do I book The Loft?

If you’re scheduling a photo, video, or filmmaking session, you can book directly through our website. If you’re interested in hosting an event at The Loft, we ask that you contact us directly so we can make sure our space will fit your needs!

What’s allowed / not allowed at The Loft?

You’ll find The Loft ideal for most photo sessions, including headshots, brand sessions, engagement photos, family photos, etc.

Because we’re in a family-friendly building and share space with other tenants, no boudoir or nudity is allowed. We also have a no pets and no glitter policy, for the sake of keeping the space clean and allergy-free for our other guests.

You can review our complete Terms of Agreement here prior to booking.

Tell me about your cleanup policy.

Of course! Because we allow photographers to book sessions back-to-back, there may be another photographer coming in right behind you. We ask that you please return all furniture to its original position at the end of your shoot. Please also sweep the floor, so the space looks pristine for the next guest.

We ask that you include setup and cleanup time in your booking. (We’ve included the option of a half-hour add-on to any session, which will give you 15 minutes before and after your session if you think you’ll need it.)

How do we access the studio?

You’ll receive a reminder email two hours before your session with a key code for entry. Please do not share the code with anyone.

Can we move the furniture?

Yes, you’re welcome to move the rolling wall and move the furniture to meet your needs.

Additionally, there are a variety of rugs you can use if you like. These are especially helpful for sound dampening if you’re shooting video or hosting a group of people. Please roll up the rugs (except for the one under the couch) at the end of your session and sweep the floor.

Can we bring in our own lights and/or props?

Yes, you are welcome to supplement our natural light with your own studio lights, reflectors, etc. We do have an elevator in the building, which can be helpful for bringing gear upstairs.

Can we use the paper backdrops?

We have three seamless paper backdrops for photographers. Right now the colors are white, gray, and black.

The paper backdrops can be finicky, so here are a couple of tips:

Hold the bottom handle in place at the bottom, and move the chain slowly. Try not to twist the chain — moving it slowly is key.

If the paper is clean, you may roll it back up when you’re finished. Or, if the part that hit the floor gets dirty, use the scissors in the desk to cut that part off.
